Devon’s largest non-audition adult choir celebrated 10 fantastic years of singing, fund-raising and fun at the weekend. From small beginnings (originally 18 members in one choir in Lympstone), La La has grown to over 300 members in four choirs in Plymouth, Exeter, Exmouth (now amalgamated with Lympstone) and Ottery St Mary. Our first gig was in Lympstone Village Hall, we have now sold out Exeter Cathedral for our CLIC4Christmas gig for the last three years. We think that 10 years is an incredible achievement, we are very proud of our choir, and our Sam, and we love a party, so it we didn’t have to think very hard to decide to celebrate on 8th September with a huge get-together.
One hundred and seventy of us from all four choirs met at Lympstone Village Hall for the party to end all parties (until the next milestone – we enjoyed it so much, we might celebrate something else very soon!). La La’s musical director, Sam Abrahams, gave a heartfelt speech, reflecting on some of her favourite memories, proudest moments, and absent friends, and thanked the people who help her make La La what it is. We had a raffle with fabulous prizes, which raised £516 for foodbanks in Plymouth, Exeter, Exmouth and Ottery. We also had awards for everything from Most Travelled Choir Member to Naughtiest Natterers. There was a mountain of food, and most of all we sung, sung, sung our hearts out – there was a crammed dance floor, where middle aged men and women were to be seen pogoing to Avicii … we hope you enjoy these pictures of the night. If you’d like to be part of La La’s next 10 years, come along to a choir session at one of our weekly venues. By clicking here or going to our The Choirs page, you can find all the information you’ll need to get you to Plymouth, Exeter, Exmouth or Ottery.
We hope to see you soon!
