Wow, wow, wow, last Friday night at the Cathedral was just totes gert lush amazeballs with jingle bells on!!
The annual La La CLIC for Christmas Concert in aid of CLIC Sargent (a charity which supports families of children with cancer throughout their treatment) was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! It goes without saying that all 260 members of La La Choirs not only sounded wonderful, but had a fantastic time – and the two guest acts were awesome, with the choir from Kingsley School, Bideford, and the CLIC Sargent Singers stunning the audience with their sets. It was a lovely, Christmassy time, with a wide variety of songs from many genres and decades, and everyone there had a brilliant experience!
But that is all peripheral to the real reason that we were all there at the Cathedral on Friday 8th December. As well as having a great evening, we wanted to raise a lot of money for CLIC Sargent. We heard from the family of Ivy, a young firecracker of 3 years and 7 months, who was diagnosed about a year ago. CLIC Sargent has supported her family, and Jake, Ivy’s dad spoke eloquently and movingly about what their support has meant. We also heard from members of the CLIC Sargent Singers, who have benefitted from the CLIC Sargent music programme for young people diagnosed with cancer.
Last year an incredible £12,000 was raised, so this year Sam Abrahams, MD of La La Choirs, and driving force behind the CLIC for Christmas concert, felt that a target of £16,000 was achievable. It costs £4,000 to support the family of a child with cancer from diagnosis to completion, so £16,000 would support four families, which would be fabulous. Before the concert, the total stood at just under £12,000, which was last year’s complete total, and we were keeping our fingers crossed that the very generous audience members would feel that the delicious home-made cakes available in the interval would be worth a large donation. And do you know what? WE BLOOMING DID IT! With a little post-concert prodding from Sam, a JustGiving page and text donations, we reached £16,010 on Sunday afternoon.
