The Devon Secondary Schools Choir Competition is well underway, with all schools across the county having been sent details about the contest. Christmas 2017 might seem far in the future, but with the closing date in May and the Final in October, there’s no time to waste for the schools who want the chance to win the opportunity to perform in a prestigious concert at Exeter Cathedral in December.
La La Choirs, together with CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, are running their annual concert in Exeter Cathedral on 8th December 2017. In 2016 we raised a phenomenal £12,000 for CLIC Sargent.
All Devon Schools and Academies with children aged 12 to 18 are being offered the opportunity to bring a choir along to perform in this fantastic venue for a 20 minute slot. The Cathedral is a seriously impressive building, and has great acoustics plus an amazing atmosphere – we fully expect to sell out all 900 seats yet again!
Last year’s winners were Devonport High School for Girls Sixth Form Choir and The Park Community School Choir.
Head of Music Robert Grace, Devonport High School for Girls said: “This competition is a fantastic opportunity for students to be recognised for the work they do outside the classroom. I’m absolutely thrilled that my choir will have the opportunity to perform in Exeter Cathedral—after all, that’s what all of their rehearsals are building towards. And CLIC Sargent are such a wonderful charity to support. I’m looking forward to hearing them sing alongside La La Choirs.”
Head of Music Matt Street, The Park Community School said: “The students worked hard to get through to the final of the competition and we are all delighted to be performing at Exeter Cathedral for the second year running. It is an honour to be performing in aid of CLIC Sargent and thanks again…for the opportunity”
This is a fantastic opportunity to perform in one of Devon’s best concert venues and to support a charity that makes a real difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer, and their families.
